As automotive electronics continue to evolve over the past decades, major car manufacturers have been adopting more and more intelligent and energy-efficient designs to meet market trends and consumer demands. Back in the 1980s, automotive electronics accounted for about 2-3% of the entire vehicle. Nowadays, automotive electronics take up more than 50% of a vehicle. Automobiles are expected to become smarter, safer and more energy efficient, all thanks to the automotive electronic systems.

As automobiles become increasingly electrified, automotive products are required to be even more reliable compared to general consumer products. Automotive products are designed and manufactured to be used in relatively harsh environments. For example, automotive products must pass a reliability test of over 500 hours at a high temperature of 155 degrees Celsius and a low temperature of -40 degrees Celsius. In addition, car manufacturers require these products to last at least 10 to 15 years, which is a relatively high standard.

Automotive PCBs carry the crucial components to ensure the proper functioning of a vehicle's electronic systems. These systems encompass a wide range of functionalities, including engine control, transmission, braking, safety features, infotainment systems, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). PCBs provide the necessary interconnections and pathways for electrical signals to flow smoothly between these components, enabling them to communicate and operate effectively.
